Exhaustion

there is

sadness in my teeth

an ache in my bones

and blood underneath my fingernails

and i just want to sleep

as i am so much more than tired

of the world

of life

of just

existing–

but every time i close my eyes

all i see is everything that’s slipped away

and left me with

the bruised knuckles

of someone who fought

far too long

and far too hard

for something

she could never have.
